A case is a group of related appointments or visits. Cases allow you to track multiple episodes of managed care. For example, a patient may be under treatment in a group practice for several different medical problems that require pre-authorization and/or referrals. Creating a case for each problem allows you to segregate and track services rendered and associate appointments and visits with these different types of authorized services related to the specified problem. As appointments are scheduled, the visit counts decrement, so you can track authorizations. (Authorizations can be set up to not decrement the visit count for special circumstances.) Once a case is created, future visits are pre-populated with the specific information from the case (such as the diagnosis and procedures), which saves time and keystrokes and eliminates errors.
